The Easy Bounce: Finding Freedom from the Need for Fluency

In Free Yourself from the Shackles of Stuttering, Gunars Neiders presents the easy bounce as more than a speech technique. It is also an opportunity to practice cognitive change.

Rather than fighting or hiding a stutter, we allow an easy repetition and continue speaking. In doing so, we challenge beliefs such as, “I must be fluent” or “It would be awful if someone heard me stutter.”

Each easy bounce becomes evidence that we can stutter, communicate, and move forward.

The goal isn’t perfect fluency. It is freedom from the belief that fluency is required.
